Puppymill Puppies smuggled into SG

Another source of puppies are from overseas puppy mills in nearby countries such as Malaysia, though it is not unheard of for them to come from Australia as well. In more horrific cases, they are smuggled into the country without legal shipping carriers. In December 2017, a Malaysian man was caught smuggling 23 puppies into Singapore onboard a yacht. 11 of those puppies later succumbed to illness and died. The dogs were kept in cramped conditions and hidden under bath towels; there were no import permits or health certificates for the puppies. The puppies were not given any food or water for their journey. The perpetrator was sentenced to 8 months jail.¹
In March 2017, a man was jailed 30 weeks for smuggling 11 puppies into Singapore. Puppies were not fed food or water.²â€‹
​In December 2016, a Man was jailed for smuggling 23 puppies. Poodles, Shihtzus, Pomeranians, French bulldogs and golden retrievers were kept in cramped conditions, with no food or water given to them. “Ten of the youngest dogs died after being infected with parvovirus and one had to be euthanised.” “between four and eight weeks old”
