About
We are an organisation that aims to raise awareness on how to best obtain a dog in Singapore. Puppies from pet shops often have numerous physical and behavioural issues due to poor and cruel breeding practices, as well as the pet shop environment itself being less than ideal. Adopting a purebreed or buying from a responsible, ethical breeder is much more ethical and economical.
People often realise a little too late that their newly bought puppy from the pet shop has a host of issues, ranging from short-term skin infections or kennel cough to long-term behavioural issues such as excessive barking. What these new owners, and prospective owners, don't realise is that these are not breed-specific traits or normal for any dog at all. These issues are a direct result of the pet shop environment that these puppies grew up in. Pet shop puppies more likely than not come from puppymills, places where dogs are treated like puppy-making machines without love and care. Due to this mistreatment, their health suffers. Unhealthy parents lead to unhealthy puppies, and many puppies from pet shops end up very sickly. They also rarely possess the breed traits they are known for. Once the parent breeding dogs' health inevitably declines due to the mistreatment, their baby-making abilities are affected, and they are killed off or thrown out to die. To buy from a pet shop that gets their stock from puppymills is to directly give thousands of dollars in support of this cruelty, and the new owner often finds themselves shelling out more in vet fees for surgery or treatment for their puppy's health issues.
Instead, adopt a purebreed dog from SPCA, individuals, or buy from a reputable, ethical breeder from overseas. Shelter dogs are treated with love and care, nursed to good health and have their behavioural issues rehabilitated. Reputable, ethical breeders breed to improve the breed. Breeding stock (the parent dogs) are screened for good health and puppies are well-socialized, and all for about the same cost as a pet shop puppy in Singapore. Kinder Hearts holds events where we bring adopted and/or ex-breeding dogs down to give talks to educate the public and promote a culture in Singapore that does not accept the cruelty in puppymills. At the same time, the public is advised on where to get happy, healthy dogs in Singapore.
Feel free to contact us below for any questions, or if you would like to have Kinder Hearts down for an event at your space!
